Last weekend my niece and sister were in town. We went to the touristy sites in LA only to end up in Hot Topic because my niece is 13 and at that age, that store is a wonderland. How I wished to be that young again and be intrigued by the loud music deafening everyone who entered. Last year my baby girl was into hip hop, this year she picked up an Asking Alexandria tee and was keen on the skeleton filled skinny jeans. As we stood there, her mom paying the tattoo covered cashier, I asked myself…When did I get old? When did this store become just a place I buy my niece things at and not myself? I mean, I’m not a grown up at all. I don’t go out to bars, I stay in and fall helplessly in love with TV characters and then it hit me when I popped in Rescuer’s With Time Comes The Comfort. I was old in a sense. They’re crash course of hardcore was a bit much for my quarter of a decade old ears.
Many years ago my first real show where I wasn’t glued to a seat and was on the barricade was The Used with Saosin (still a band?). Those shows and bands like that used to be fun for me, now I’m worried sick at Warped Tour when bands like Rescuer are near. Just the thought of being stuck in the middle of the crowd waiting for some pop rock treat like All Time Low and hearing Rescuer start their set with a song like “Birds of Prey” or “Bring Me Back” is terrifying. I can imagine their fans making way for a pit, and non-religious me praying to whoever would listen.
When “Fell” started I thought Rescuer was like Atreyu minus the angelic breaks thanks to Brandon Saller. With so much hardcore screaming going on, it was hard to make out anything beyond “you’ll never know” in “Shame,” with which I agreed. I’ll never know what was going on in With Time Comes The Comfort in the lyrical sense that is.
Rescuer is a nonstop powerhouse with their album With Time Comes The Comfort. If you’re into bands like La Dispute and Title Fight then you’re way more badass and a more fitting fan for Rescuer than me. With Time Comes The Comfort is out now on Rise Records, so pick it up no matter what age you are, unless your ears can’t handle all it. In that case, wait for the new Summer Set record with me and we’ll dance while the more hardcore folks do walls of death.
