Sister Sin: Now And Forever

When you walk on the Sunset Strip you pass an array of venues. House of Blues gets a lot of the bigger names acts and events, The Roxy usually hosts “locals only” radio shows and The Whisky looks like it never went past 1989. The usual crowd outside is draped in fashionable leather, precisely ripped band tees and biker boots that look uncomfortable. The Whisky is where you’d be likely to find Sister Sin, a Swedish metal band with a female lead who proves on their latest, Now And Forever, that she’s just not a pretty face.

Now And Forever encases badass metal in between two slow and creepy tracks. “MMXII” is a quick instrumental intro and “Morning After,” one that plays like an odd man out amongst all the others. Between those bookends lay a cascade of rock, which includes the barroom anthem “Fight Song.” While everything about Sister Sin from their metal sound to their look reminds me of The Whisky, there’s a couple tracks that take me back to a tour I kind of miss; Family Values. Remember when Korn would do that? Well if Korn ever starts it back up and drops the dubstep, they should take Sister Sin out with them. “In It For Life” and “The Chosen Few” would work wonders with those crowds.

If Joan Jett mated with Gene Simmons they’d produce Liv of Sister Sin and she’d head off and make friends with a trio of dudes hard enough to handle her. Now And Forever is for fans of Crazy Lixx and Crucified Barbara, and is out now on Victory Records.
