This past summer Echo Movement did Warped Tour and along with every other Reggae and Hip-Hop act on the (obvious) Marley Stage. We met for the first time after years of emailing and got to chat about their new album, Love and the Human Outreach, and all the space elements that went into it…

Space, it’s everything between you and me and it’s the unknown of humanity. Well for Echo Movement, it was an inspiration for their latest record. They contacted NASA and got their hands on actual sounds from space to use in their music. As far as anyone knows, this is a first of its kind and pretty awesome for any and all audiophiles out there.

Since I’m not one to notice the intricate placement of odd sounds, it was hard for me to detect where these universal sounds were, but I noted where I am pretty sure some were used, “Rising Sunset.” This song not only sounded space influenced, but video game like. It sparked memories of Sonic 2 and the sounds the little hedgehog made as I tried my hardest to keep him alive under water.

Other than the  audible space and ring collecting rodents, the feel of Love and the Human Outreach is relaxed and laid back. It’s got that, let’s sit on this beach with our heads back admiring the time we have while we discuss the meaning of life, vibe to it. This especially rings true with “Love and the Human Outreach” with its wise fortune cookie like lyrics strewn across a fantastic melody.

One thing that was surprising from a band that is known for its Warped Tour presence? “A Wake Behind” and its commercial appeal as it is a dead ringer for a lost Jason Mraz track.

As far as 2012 goes, space is having a notable year. First Curiosity lands on Mars, then we lose the first man to walk on the moon and now sounds from the infinite abyss known as the universe are on a record you can take along with you as you explore. While you might not be heading into orbit, you’ll want Love and the Human Outreach along with you if you’re into bands like Chapter 11 and Rootdown. So get yourself some Echo Movement, now!
