Fiction. It’s a category of storytelling. It’s the lies we accept for the sake of entertainment. My fiction is me with living with the man of my dreams, a pug and a husky in the middle of Hollywood. He works in music, and I just stay at home and write to my heart’s content. My fiction is just that, but My Fictions, now that’s a band from Massachusetts that has an EP full of music that would scare the daylights out of my make-believe pups. It’s hardcore fashioned after the darker side reality. The songs aren’t for the easy going who like their music capped off with harmonies and whimsy. My Fictions’ Always Trapped is for those folks who yearn for walls of death and musical adrenaline.
A ménage of tracks, each one a step deeper into engulfing oneself into a mayhem of sound. Like most hardcore, it and my ears don’t match well and the words escape me, so when that happens, I have nothing to do but focus on the music at hand. While watching a Jack the Ripper special, “Always Trapped” seemed fitting. I imagined the Ripper slayings and each second of the song added another dose of fear in my victim’s mentality.
“A Reoccurring Dream” was energetic, but it was “Coffin Rehearsal” that inched by to make more of a lasting impression. If Rob Zombie has a new horror movie coming out anytime, may I suggest this track? It sounds demented and disturbed and would engage people more than…well the usual suspects of horror soundtracks, *cough* Disturbed *cough*
My personal fiction may never play out into and become a true biographical account, but you can be sure of a hardcore experience with My Fictions’ Always Trapped, out now on Topshelf Records. Get it if you’re into bands like We Were Skeletons and Weak Teeth.
