Sometimes I think my little brother is a little indie chick in a 6 ft. 3 in. frame. He was the first person to tell me to watch Ghost World. It’s still unclear on why he was watching this movie at 9 years old, but I’m glad he did because now it’s a point of reference for music I listen to that sounds like growing up in a whirlwind of confusion. In other words, The Mean Season’s The Mean Season.
“Henry” is a song that Rebecca would’ve put on a mixtape for Enid. She probably would’ve said, “Check this new band out. They have a chick and they get it.” What “it” is, is between the two pair of friends. But we can assume it’s something deep, like the saying on the inside of a fortune cookie.
“Kurtz” and “Black Tie Affair” go along with the theme I’ve painted in this movie remake, but it’s “Hearts” showcases itself as one that can set itself apart from the movie at hand. When it comes to the actual organ of the heart, The Mean Season sing, “who decided it was such a perfect symbol for love. It is only an organ pumping your blood.” We’ve all been through that feeling when we’re alone on Valentine’s Day. It’s the anti-theme of love, and the way they deliver it falls on the creepy scale, but you’ll be too captivated to notice the creep factor of the tone of voice.
The Mean Season’s The Mean Season is an indie rock record with a wispy voice that acts as a delicate buffer.
