Flatfoot 56: Toil

Flatfoot 56’s Toil doesn’t come out until July 24th, but I sat down and listened the same weekend I engaged in seeing Disney’s Brave. I guess my weekend wanted to have an Irish theme. As Toil played on I feel more and more in love with the Celtic Punk style and thought to myself, the main character of Brave, Merida, would totally have blasted Flatfoot 56’s music as she went against her family’s traditions.

Not to say Toil is only fit for a teen girl pisses at her parents, just pointing out the rebellious spirit that Flatfoot 56’s music suggests in punk rock, bagpipe infused tracks like “Brother, Brother,” “Live or Die Trying” and the passionate “Terrorizing Truth.”

All those songs showcase Flatfoot 56’s ability to rock, but it’s the songs that weren’t as heavy that stood a bit higher on the popularity scale as I listened through. “I Believe It” and “6’10” both had a communal feel. They’re those songs your friends get too into once they’ve been through a few pints down at the pub, but it’s okay because it sounds of a good time.

Toil is a punk record with a Celtic twist that offers rage in musical form, some sing-alongs and even a bit of Peanuts (listen as “Winter In Chicago” begins). So if you like bands like Flogging Molly and even Broadway Calls, get into Flatfoot 56’s Toil, out 7/24.
