Every week I go in with a positive attitude like, fuck yeah, I’m gonna own this week. Then more often than not one thing goes wrong and I sit at my desk questioning existence like I’m Aristotle. Then on my trek home this past week, I tossed on The Tower and The Fool’s How Long and I almost cried. It’s easy to connect with music. We do it on a daily basis, but there was something perfect about the tone of the music and the lyrics that reassured me “don’t give up.”

Insightful songs that take their time to get started are constructed so well that you don’t ever feel the need to skip ahead. Already earning a shout out, “Scoliosis” took the cake on this record. I sat alone and in between commercials during Boy Meets World, I tried to sing along, strumming an air guitar. I tried to encompass the heart the song has. I was unable to match it, but that doesn’t mean the lyrics failed to make a lasting impression.

“Don’t put the bones in your back. They’re in your back and they are back. They’re there to hold you up, so don’t give up.”

That’s not to say the rest of How Long wasn’t as awe inspiring. “How Long” is a definite nominee for a future indie flick trailer due to its ability to be used for that classic “stare out the window into the infinite abyss (Garden State, we love you).

Closing out How Long is “Who Does She Think She Is?” At first it’s as if a “Landslide” cover is coming, then you become completely entrapped by the first line “Don’t waste your time.” If you’re not ready to become romantically involved with a record that mirrors the retrospect of human existence from an emotional stand point, don’t approach How Long.

Fans of bands like The Dangerous Summer and Wilco have the pleasure of getting The Tower & The Fool’s How Long on April 24th on Run For Cover Records. And I’m going to end with a prediction; this record will make everyone’s top list come December including big deals like Alternative Press and Absolute Punk.
