Calculator: CALC

calculator-calc-reviewIt’s that time of year where things sort of take a break and we just focus on the little things around here like top things of the year list. So this will likely be the last actual review of 2014 for Golden Mixtape – unless I get bored the week of Christmas and feel the need to bust another out. I don’t see that happening as I should be starting a new writing gig that will have me by the balls. Speaking of, Calculator’s CALC definitely has some big ones. Two songs deep this 7” doesn’t play around.

Joining Count Your Lucky Stars early in the year, Calculator has pulled together to push out this record that’d make fans of Touche Amore gush. It’s got some anger management problems that quite frankly shouldn’t be solved. They work for them and for those who enjoy letting their frustrations out while listening to music. “North by Northwest” is definitely more pissed off sounding than “Graduation Day,” but that doesn’t mean that one is a walk in the park. Both encompass a garage band like feel set on a semi-hardcore plain.

If you’re into bands like At the Drive In and Circle Takes the Square, then you’re going to want to dig into Calculator over the winter break. CALC drops December 16th on Count Your Lucky Stars. That’s it for this and next week look out for my favorites in TV, movies and of course musical delights songs and albums of the year.
