Sincerely, Grizzly: Halves

sincerely-grizzly-halves-reviewYou ever just have one of those weekends that feel endless, but in a good way? As I recover from bliss I’m listening to some Aussie imports by the name of Sincerely, Grizzly. They have dubbed themselves Literature rock but what I heard was a band that is more like an improv group. Each song was a new character in the mix on Halves but somehow it felt whole.

Let’s start where it starts though with “A Pickle For The Knowing Ones; or Plain Truths In A Homespun Dress.” Much like the title, it dragged on and wasn’t for me but things took a great turn with the rock coming from “Future History” and later again with “Kafkaesque,” which was verging on a little hip hop in terms of the intro and delivery. Between the rock were indie like scenarios with “Us; or Optimism” and the slow tune, “Catholic Guilt.”

While it was either really heavy on the rock or lighter and indie, each song stood alone to make this sounds like a compilation of sorts from a band figuring out all they could do. If you’re a fan of bands like We Are Scientists you might want to check out Sincerely, Grizzly’s Halves, out now.
