Forget This: Greatest Hits

forget-this-greatest-hits-reviewLast night I went to bed super early because I cried too much of the day and had a headache but today I had to promise myself to not let a tear shed as I took on a record that’s been waiting patiently to be reviewed. Forget This’ Greatest Hits wasn’t what I expected. I thought I was getting pop punk just because that’s what usually comes through. Instead I got this thought out folk rock record that sounded like a college campus in the ‘90s.

This record packed in a lot of heart. After some for the downtrodden like “Waiting for the Cavalry” and “Still Alive,” “Funeral #1” packed a huge punch and really changed the energy of the album for me. You could hear the emotional rollercoaster of the words and the delivery. The best of Greatest Hits though came from the ones that really laid down the folk like “Definitely Not Joan of Arc’s Blues” and the gang vocals intertwined with the harmonica in “Walk On.”

At the end I couldn’t help but think I was listening to some cousin of later Jack’s Mannequin based on the emotion in the vocal performances alone. This album has that singer songwriter feel but on a grander scale as it’s more than one man and a guitar but rather a whole band bringing you their a-game. If you’re a fan of indie music that has a folk mentality, then check out Forget This’ Greatest Hits, out now.
