solid-gold-balls-self-titled-reviewHappy Labor Day everyone! For those who have the day off, awesome – the rest of us are working because what else is there to do? No invites to BBQs or any other social plans line my afternoon but at least I get to see a show free tonight. So before I start to get ready for that and whatnot, let’s talk about Solid Gold Balls’ self-titled record this morning. It’s an odd mixture of various decades intertwined with indie elements and brought to the forefront with eccentricities.

I’ve reviewed a couple records on here that fall into the category I’m about to go into – the theater kid. You know, the oddballs who have no care what anyone else thinks? That’s what I feel Solid Gold Balls is as an album. “Dream Is Real” sets you up for a classic rock time, and then “AC/DC Fan” sounds like the soundtrack to every stoner film in the ‘90s. I’m sure my older brother would appreciate that one. Then towards the middle sits a trio of interesting ones that left me a little puzzled; “Bacon,” “Kenny G,” and “Dog Doo.” I wasn’t sure what was going on musically or lyrically there but recommend those three for the folks out there who walk to their own beat – because these songs sure do.

Solid Gold Balls isn’t set on one thing and each song brings a new perspective to the band. If you like obscure indie music, you’ve hit the jackpot. So enjoy your day off or add some music to your work day and check out Solid Gold Balls, out now.
