Having a Garfield moment as the hours of the afternoon continue to stack and I’m staring at a pile of “get this shit done.” My soundtrack today is Sleep Weather’s Two Wheels Spinning and it’s a quick ride down the gravel filled road thanks to the vocals that match what’s making my imaginary tires sing.
Didn’t catch that? Well the vocals found on this EP are what I call gravel. This means they’re rough on purpose for effect. It gives the music a sense of raw appeal. That played out nicely, but I wouldn’t have expected it since right out of the gate “Grasoline” played like a sweet anticipation. You wondered what would finally come after the subdued music and then, bam! Let me continue to talk about this one because the lyrics were my favorite here – poetry found in a notebook of a kid who hates the limelight.
I also have to point out “Houses” as well because the little pickups throughout were pleasurable. It’s also important to note that you can hear the vocals get a little smooth for like two seconds in “Penny Arcade.”
I was taken with the lyrics more so than anything and ended up singing them to myself in a folky manner. It’s safe to say no matter what genre you’re into – You’d like Sleep Weather way more than me. If you’re into bands that have that gravel growls delivering these grand gestures in lyrical form, then this band’s for you. So make sure to check out Two Wheels Spinning, out now.
