What a morning it has been – one thing after the other pulling me every which way but I couldn’t get away from this day without dishing about this split between David Rokos and Owl Meet Rabbit called Songs for Passengers. One keeps it serious while the other switches the light on when it comes to downer thoughts. Both come together as singer songwriters though to create split that’s got a little something for everyone who gravitates towards acoustic guitars.
We’ll start with Rokos since he’s first on the record. From the start, you can tell this guy means business with lines about “doing lines” in “Neon Lights” with the help of Alex Wolf. From there we hear the best, “Like Prairie Avenue,” between the lines and “Life” which dealt with lies. Then you had Owl Meet Rabbit, who strolled in with a pep in his step, although he admits he’s a hot mess in “Diner,” there’s something infectious about him as he continues to diss himself in “In Defense of Tyler Flowers.”
Rokos gets things going with his stern delivery, and then it all balances out thanks to the animated ways of Owl Meet Rabbit. So it’s not hard to guess who’s who when listening. It was almost like two brothers, the older responsible one and the younger one looking to have a little fun (all the while noting his mistakes). If you’re into guys who can strap on a guitar and bring out a mixture of emotions, check out David Rokos and Owl Meet Rabbit’s Song for Passengers, out now on Rogers Park Records.
