the-hotelier-home-like-noplace-is-there-reviewThere’s nothing like waking up to criticism, it’s the best, right? It was a slow start this morning as I was told how to write something in a format that’s totally the wrong way, but whatever – not my site so I did what he said (to an extent) and moved on. While Yahoo was failing to deliver an important note, I finished taking in The Hotelier’s Home, Like Noplace Is There. I’d started last week and reality interrupted but I was glad to finish today, as the frustrations in the delivery matched my every being.

This record dealt with a lot of heavy, yet normal human experiences like blaming yourself in “The Scope Of All This Rebuilding” and the idea of facing a loved one’s death in “Your Deep Rest.” I’ve yet to lose someone that close to me, but I’m sure this song is how I’ll feel, as the song says “uncomfortable.”  Other must-listens I’d suggest are “Housebroken,” “Dendron” and the blunt “An Introduction To The Album.” The only one I really didn’t feel because it felt too forced was “Life In Drag.” I like the grit in the vocals, but this was just a force I wasn’t willing to deal with.

The Hotelier capture a lot of sadness and madness in this record and it comes across like a controlled breakdown. If you’re a fan of Modern Baseball and The Front Bottoms, then you’re going to have a good time with The Hotelier – I guarantee it. Who else misses that guy? Anyways, Home, Like Noplace Is There is out February 25th on Tiny Engines.
