It’s almost noon on the Friday after Christmas and I’m still like, why…why can’t this holiday just be designated to a certain spot like Thanksgiving so that we’re not forced to disturb the middle of the week? While I’m still recovering from a few days in the desert the sounds of Mystery Twins’ Ghost In The Ground is taunting me. I’ve listened to it for about three hours straight and am just barely finding the words to say about the indie folk duo’s record.
Lyrically “The World Within” grabbed my attention away from the abyss that is Tumblr, but there was something about the gritty Dylan like vocals that made me teeter between liking the song and dismissing it. For those who like that unpolished realness, then you’ll definitely take to Mystery Twins a lot faster than me. You’ll admire that along with the singer/songwriter feel, and the way the melodies dance between the two vocalists in “Other Side Of Life” and “Do You Wanna Dance With Me?” For me that first one and the energy of “In The Ground” were the only ones to really get me to lean towards liking the record as a whole – not my style I guess.
If you’re into music that sounds like it’s coming to you from an old vinyl collection, then Mystery Twins if for you. If you’re the type of person who fancies indie and folk blended together, than check out Ghost In The Ground, out now.
