You should all be proud of me today. I woke up and have been busy since. Only once did I get lost in a sea of tweets. Now I’m above water and can concentrate on Six Time Champion’s Old Friends, Loose Ends. This is what I needed to start my week off with – some good ol’ pop punk. It’s been a lot of indie on here lately, but here’s something for you hip and happening kids out there who like to jump around at shows.
Three songs deep, this EP gives you enough to work with. “Cheek To Cheek” is the poster child for the record and starts off strong. There’s no long lead in, it gets to the point fast and is all about being a weakling as a kid but growing up and feeling a bit stronger. Then you have “Can I Blame Someone Else Now?” with vocals that are a bit gruff, but they worked well to balance out the light pop punk music that was holding things together. Lastly, you have to have that acoustic one so that fans have something to immolate on YouTube later. That’s where “Old Friends, Loose Ends.” You can hear the British accent in this one, and it only makes it better.
This record has a lot of personal issues that will make it resonate with people who might be feeling a little down and need a pick me up. I’m pleased to have this one to round out 2013 with. If you’re into pop punk and want something from across the pond, check out Six Time Champion’s Old Friends, Loose Ends, out now.
