Remember when I slept on the couch to be uncomfortable so I’d wake up early and then didn’t? Oh the repetition in my life is becoming a sad comedy – maybe it was that Funny People movie Adam Sandler tried to pull off. Oh that was bad, but at least we have bands like The Personnel and their record Borrow or Steal to help forget that movie (yes, I’m aware that came out years ago but the bad taste still lingers). Although just an EP, it’s got its moments of goodness.
If you’re the kind of person who likes clean lines and often relies on the radio to find new music, then The Personnel may be you’re new find. I have no clue if they’re getting airwave love for “Naïve” yet, but they should be. It’s one of those songs that sounds like it belongs on playlists that cater to fans of One Republic and Imagine Dragons. Then you have “We Can’t Get Out” that goes on to say “we can pull it off, we can make it.” It’s too early to say, but it sounds like one of those song choices for a gradation anthem ballot – despite the title.
There’s never a moment where you’re wondering why The Personnel is a band. The details of their EP are flawless to me and I can’t see a problem with it. The only reason to not like this record would be because you like your music with more attitude, so if you’re feeling this one by now you have to check out Borrow or Steal, out now.
