dance-gavin-dance-acceptance-speech-reviewWho hasn’t thought of what they’d say if they won an award? It doesn’t matter the honor, I’d thank all the people who made me feel like shit and the companies that never hired me. That’s my game plan if I’m ever given the chance. Thanks Dance Gavin Dance for the album title that made me think of spilling my future “thank yous.” Acceptance Speech is that classic blend of hostile vocals of one individual matched with the feminine-like wiles of another all placed on a musical plain that’s forceful in nature.

Of course I appreciated the songs where Tilian Pearson reigned supreme. His voice high, like listening to a Sleeping With Sirens record, was actually better the second time around. By that point I’d gotten used to it and found myself enjoying “The Robot with Human Hair pt. 4” and “Strawberry Swisher pt. 3” the most although they weren’t solely Pearson. I did however like “Doom & Gloom” thanks to the line, “Give me some keys and I’ll drive you insane.” Other than that I’d pass on the ones where I was left a little spooked – “Acceptance Speech” and “Carve.”

If I won an award tomorrow I might want to steal that line from “Doom & Gloom” and be done with it. Which would you choose off this record? Anyways, if you like bands like Chiodos and Emarosa than it’s likely you’ve already gotten into Dance Gavin Dance and this record’s been spinning for about a week already in your world. If not, check out Acceptance Speech, out now on Rise Records.
