Wrapping my head around trying to find a job and a new Backstreet Boy’s video, welcome to Thursday. After listening to my teeny bopper loves about 15 times in a row, I switched gears slightly to Machines Are People Too and their new album Nickels & Dimes. With so many albums coming into my life, I often forget which genre is which until it’s their time for review. So I say slightly switched only because Machines Are People Too could be played on the same station as BSB, they’re dance enough, but at the same time they’d fit into the rock category too and here’s why…
The dance party started with “Get Up,” and that kind of remained the core of the festivities. Other songs had that element, but leaned more towards bands like Neon Trees and fun like when it came to the ever so joyful “Wait” and “Do What You Love.” After the first song, I didn’t expect to find a lot of substance from this record, just being honest. I thought it’d be all good times, but surprisingly for a little inspiration from “I’m Alright.” Thank you Machines Are People Too for reminding us all to “take some time to live your life;” noted. What started out with a Top 40 track I’d probably pass by, the record wrapped up with “Our Time” (if you get the iTunes bonus that is). The vocals reminded me of The Killers’ Brandon Flowers and for some reason, I can’t deny the abilities that man has, or anyone who compares.
What did you learn today? Backstreet Boys have a new video and that if you’re into bands like fun. and Grouplove, then you’ll fancy some Machines Are People Too. This Nashville quartet’s sophomore album, Nickels & Dimes, is out July 23rd.
