perpetual-drifters-closer-every-day-reviewThis morning I tweeted at one of my idols to hire me and he tweeted back. In my head I’ll be working for him come Monday. That delusion has also kept me from sending off an email that could (probably not) land me an actual job that’s more a career. I’m scared of taking that plunge into adulthood, and that makes sense since I am drinking out of a High School Musical cup while listening to Perpetual Drifters’ Closer Every Day and thinking, “I’m not old enough to appreciate this.”

The album is made for storytellers that like the feel of rock intertwined with Americana and folk. I imagined you’d find yourself in a bar at 1am questioning life, because that’s what you do at that hour in a bar, right? Well you’d be there and then hear a song like “Stained Glass World” and your whole outlook on life would find clarity. Even though stained, it’s crystal clear. Every song that followed wasn’t able to make me draw up a scenario quite as poignant as the bar scene, but I can say “Make Up My Mind” was playful and “Weightless” had a cool New Mexico feel. Just listen and think of the landscape of that state…It makes sense to me.

Other than a moment of clarity, I think I’m some years away from listening to a band like Perpetual Drifters on my own time. They’re approach to rock is often times to mature for me, but that’s just me and my love for things 10 years too young for me. If you’ve got a mature ear then check out Closer Every Day, out now.
