captian-were-sinking-the-future-is-cancelled-reviewYesterday I was meeting a sloth and a hedgehog and loving life, today I’m sick and tired of egotistical trips and being ignored. I’m shaking that off to enjoy a band that’s name isn’t new to me, but  whose music is; Captain, We’re Sinking. I’ve seen their name sprawled across AP pages and have never been intrigued enough to listen. Then The Future Is Cancelled entered my life and here we are. The punk of Captain, We’re Sinking had something in it that reminded me of why I love the likes Broadway Calls. That roughness in the vocals makes it almost a folk experience revved up.

Although we got off to a slow start with “Adultery” because it was if a nervous adolescence was behind the music, the song did get better as it began to sound there was urgency in the words. All in all The Future Is Cancelled is a good record, but that’s not to say every song was a key player in the game. It makes me sound straight edge, but “Beer Can” and “More Tequila, Less Joe” were the ones I had to limit myself on. The pair that I couldn’t get enough of though were “The Future Is Cancelled Pt. I” because it matched my current “fuck that one guy” mentality, and “Montreal” because it was a good balance of the punk and the softer side. Shout out to the feminine touch on this one as well; superb.

After The Future Is Cancelled came to a close for the fifth time today, I was like…Are they on Warped? Sadly no, so to continue to get my Captain, We’re Sinking, this album will have to do. But if you’re in the right part of the US, you can check them out starting May 24th with June 12th with Fake Problems. If you’re into bands like The Menzingers and The Holy Mess, then get a fix too and check out Captain, We’re Sinking. The Future Is Cancelled is out now on Run For Cover Records.
