Mentally I know that I’m about to be reminded that I’m a female because everything that everyone around me is doing, is causing me to contemplate violent acts. I don’t want to think these thoughts, but their stupidity shines brighter during this time of the month. Luckily I have an album in my digital hands that goes well with my rage; Octaves’ Greener Pastures. This hardcore band and their chaotic ways was the best album to help me get through my morning after I rolled my eyes one too many times at friends’ tweets and statuses.
Right away “Fix The Fernback” let me know what kind of album Greener Pastures was going to be. It wasn’t going to be a lighthearted listen. It was all about those screams and growls. Then “Be Angry at the Sun for Setting” started and I was like, yes! This is my anthem for today. I’m pissed for no reason and apparently so is this song. It claims “you only have yourself to blame,” but I’m taking that personally. The only thing I didn’t like about it was that it was a little long. What you can say in five minutes, you can say in three and a half.
The Sunny reference in “I’ve Got Boxes Full of Pepe” was awesome, although the song had nothing to do with one of my favorite shows. Maybe it did, but the hardcore delivery was hard (no pun intended) to understand. I also liked the madness that came with “I Am He Who Is Called I Am.” While one song was a bit longer than necessary, there were two that were quickies; a musical build up “Anaconda Squeeze” and an abrupt “Shmohawk.” Those two were odd additions, but after a five minute song, I welcomed them in.
As my head whirls around ideas that’d get me arrested, I thank Octaves’ Greener Pastures for calming my nerves a bit with their music that’d be fit for fans of As They Burn and Fall City Fall. Greener Pastures is out February 26th on Topshelf Records.
