J100It’s almost noon and I still haven’t fully woken up yet. I’ve written three stories already this morning ranging from Nelson Mandela loving Toddlers & Tiaras to Ashton Kutcher being punk’d by a 12 year old. I have had The Rebel Light’s self-titled playing in the background on and off the entire time and even through my sleepy eyes, I can make out the fact that it reminds me of a band I do love, just more serious, so I can’t deny this indie band even if I wanted to.

The band The Rebel Light reminds me of? Oceanics. Oh how I love their upbeat ways that make me think of something Seth Cohen would listen to on one of our dates (delusional? You bet). Only The Rebel Light is sterner in their delivery, a more mature sound than what I get from Oceanics though. “My Heroes Are Dead” and “Goodbye Serenade” are indie tracks that kind of play the same if you don’t pay attention to what makes one different from the other. Then there’s the lighter “Wake Up Your Mind.” There are two versions of that one, a long one and a radio edit. While I love more energetic tracks, I actually leaned towards “Goodbye Serenade” most. So if there’s one track you choose to take a chance on from The Rebel Light to see if they’re a fit for you, take it on that one.

I’d like to say that this review is the last thing I’m going to write today and that a nap is coming my way, but it’s not. The life of a hermit writer is never done, and I’ll leave you with this note…The Rebel Light is for fans of other indie acts like Modern Rivals and of course my loves Oceanics. The Rebel Light is out now, so check it and enjoy.
