terra-terra-terra-the-space-we-create-reviewLast night I met one of the Tiger Beat pinups who made my heart pitter patter years ago. It’s weird to think that some boy in a movie with Tim Allen would still be working today and that I’d still have butterflies knocking on my tummy walls as he signed a coupon for Jungle 2 Jungle that was older than the average One Direction fan. Anyways, that has nothing to do with Terra Terra Terra’s The Space We Create, I just wanted to share my outing at 2am as I listened to this pop rock record while avoiding sleep.

The Space We Create started off with “Without Forgiveness We’re Savages” and I was quick to dismiss it. I wanted more pop and this was just a slow song delivered through something above a whisper. “Angel” and “Burn” kept it simple with the easy to remember titles and choruses that reminded me of There For Tomorrow. Coincidentally both bands are from the Sunshine State…Wonder if they’re friends or foes?

Well they each have one song that I love for its genuine pop rock style. “Away For A While” was the only song that really played like a good time. While it wasn’t alone in the up tempo department, thanks to “Better Than Screaming” and “She Was…Disarming,” it was the best of the batch. Okay, now for the oddball on the record that might end up being a favorite among any fans of The Cab who stumble upon this post; “The Thing Is, I’m Never As Good As When You’re There.” I can only explain this as a band taking on R&B and surprisingly doing a good job.

I was in a 90’s moment of bliss from last night’s adventures, but I’m winding down as The Space We Create starts to wrap up. This album would’ve gotten on at least first base, maybe even second due to my jam “Away For A While” and the surprise of that R&B like track. But if you’re a fan of bands like Every Avenue and This Century, then Terra Terra Terra’s The Space We Create will more than likely be a home run for you. 90’s nostalgia, a pop rock band from Florida and baseball…Only in my mind at 3am does that go well together. The Space We Create is out January 15th on Round Kid Records.
