What do you do when you get invited out with people, can’t go because of the weather (buses in the rain are a no go with me) and then find out your crush is going? You sit all pissed and listen to Trust Fall’s work hard, play weird, stay kvlt. Kvlt? Well if you check out Urban Dictionary, that gives you some options. Yes, I use that as a credible source. This album could work in a number of scenarios, but this is my current state of reality, but the music is working. This record with its combination of grunge and punk style mashed with emotion and made in a garage is the perfect fit to have a rage fit with.
While work hard, play weird, stay kvlt was hard for me to understand entirely, I ended up digging the music a lot more than I ever could the words. There’s some talk of setting something free in “Be Your Own Bird,” but the anguish in the vocals disguised to me what that exactly was. I assume this song is about freedom of sorts and being an individual. I could be wrong, but that seems like a punk/grunge like topic, so I’m sticking to it. Kudos to “Wormholes and Semantics” on just the title alone. I’d expect that from someone like Matthew Joseph Payne, but this works too. It’s a long song so if you don’t have about six minutes to spare, this might not be the best route for you. But if you do then buckle up, this song has a lot of different sides; it’s like a Rubix Cube. All the colors are the array of tempos, styles, ups and downs that end up forming into one sound cube, well in this case song.
If you’re in the market or the mood for something that allows you to get out some aggression, than place your bets on Trust Fall’s work hard, play weird, stay kvlt. Also, fans of Indian Taker and CityCop are also advised to hit this band up as well. work hard, play weird, stay kvlt is out now, so get pissed and then get this album, out now on Flannel Gurl Records.
