drop-dead-sixty-until-the-end-reviewThe Conan repeat is halfway through and some guy from The Social Network is talking about meeting Johnny Depp. I would’ve liked to buy everything in my virtual cart so my family could have presents on Christmas, but I’m not really sure we’re celebrating. So as I fill my cart with the cheapest, yet amazing gifts and toss around the idea of getting them, I listen to Drop Dead Sixty’s Until The End.  Not my particular taste, except for the few that reminded me of a guilty pleasure, this album is like an adult rock party with an 80’s theme worked in.

“Mediatic” and “Be God” both have a strong sense of synth, so much so, that that’s where the 80’s comes into play. One could even assume Drop Dead Sixty were fans of Depeche Mode with the sound and lyrical content of “Be God” for example. Those weren’t necessarily the best bets for me, but if you like that style, then it’s all you. As for my guilty pleasure? I have to say I love what I know of The Killers and there was something about “Lonely Streets” and “Eternal Light” that reminded me of them, “Lonely Streets” especially. I guess it was the pretentious confidence in Michael Kerosene’s voice that Brandon Flowers also owns.

Of course there were ones that slipped through the cracks of my attention, that’s to be said with a lot of albums though. “Until The End” had an oxymoron that I appreciated, even if they didn’t mean it that way (pretty ugly), but the lead in was too long and a bit too easy going. The same goes with “No Love City.” Do not listen to that past midnight, it’s not the coffee of music, if you catch my drift.

As the night came to an end, so did this review. It was the last thing I looked at after closing my shopping windows. Maybe I’ll head back to my cart after a good night’s rest. But musically speaking, Drop Dead Sixty’s Until The End gives off a mature rock sound that fans of The Killers and Muse can and will like. So if you’re into bands that sound like that and fill your musical palate with rock that tosses in some synth, then pick up Until The End, out now.
