Golden Mixtape

One of the best things about a year being over is that all those “best of” lists start coming out, and I love making my own, so as I wrote about the best and worst the world had to offer, and the most inspirational people, I had Sink Tapes’ Please Touch on in the background. The grainy indie atmosphere it creates isn’t what I’d usually listen to, but if you’re into music that’s laid back and not overbearing in the least, then this album’s for you.

I felt songs like “The Soul Is In The Kitchen” and “Inward Bed” are being brought to me through an Instagram filter. The words are muffled and hard for me to pick out, but I assume that it’s for some artistic reason…Most of the time Sink Tapes offer up drawn out intros that allow listeners to get caught up in the music, so much so they might forget to listen to the words as they’re lost in a trance of sorts. “Lou Is Cooler Than You” made me wonder who this Lou character was, and also made me think this song was a secret since it sounded like a whisper put to song.

As for what I did gravitate towards…“Fairmont” is the track to head to if you’re not into long songs, while “Thru Your Mind” was the only one to have a chipper feel to it. “Written In The Trees” had this Tom Petty, folk vibe going on and reminded me of the Petty videos I’d see on Pop Up Video.

Sink Tapes’ Please Touch isn’t on my personal list this year, but if you’re into acts like Nico and Wire, then Sink Tapes is more your style and you should check them and Please Touch out.
