Golden Mixtape

Friday, when did you get here? After a trip down to San Diego to be one of the oldest in an All Time Low crowd, I slept in and found my knack for writing at well, an all-time low. Don’t you hate when you’re stuck with bad puns? Anyways, I sat at my desk with The GoAround’s Restating The Question on repeat for much of the morning and couldn’t figure out what to say about it, but I tried my hardest and this is what came of my efforts. The GoAround say they’re “alternative rock” on their Facebook, which is the case with a song or two, but for the most part I felt the record was all-around a mix between AC Rock, easy listening pop and a little folk.

As far as rock’s concerned, look no further than “Fooled.” It’s the most rock track on the album, starting out strong and never easing up. Like I said, that’s as hard as Restating The Question gets. The rest of the record plays like a Vh1 compilation. “Remedy” and “On Your Shoulders” are both easy on the ears and have enough factors to make them contenders against the likes of Phillip Phillips and The Script.

The best parts of the record come from the start though. “When I Hit The Bottom” and “Make It Loud” attained my attention and I found myself always circling back to those two because they stood apart from the others. “When I Hit The Bottom” has a down home feel, and the vocals remind me of Kris Allen. “Make It Loud” had a folk style that kind of reminded me of that dang Lumineers song that’s everywhere right now.

The GoAround isn’t what I would necessarily alternative rock. Restating The Question is more on the AC Rock path due to a lot of their songs having a soft rock backbone. Fans of Switchfoot and American Idol alumni Kris Allen and Phillip Phillips would be likely to back this record, which is out now.
