For months we’ve been covering the Making Moves series and it has been a road filled with unknown acts making an impression on our little blog. Now it’s all led this finale featuring some men who’ve been behind the scenes of the series. The members of Motion City Soundtrack have played a huge part in creating the past volumes, but now it’s their turn and they are leaving the series on a very high note. The trio of songs they offer sound like extras cut off of their last three records.
“Severance” is slow but has the emotion and beauty that can be found on Motion City Soundtrack’s latest, Go. Now “Major Leagues,” that one belongs straight on My Dinosaur Life. Am I being a little bias saying that because I loved this song the most, and that album is a top of mine? My Dinosaur Life blew my mind and had a certain attitude to it that can’t and won’t be dismissed. That’s the same way I felt towards “Major Leagues” compared to the others on Making Moves. That leaves us with “Pictures of Success.” With every band I like, there’s at least one album I don’t care too much about. With MCS it’s Even It It Kills Me, so that’s where “Pictures of Success” would land. It lacked and wasn’t anything to write home about.
It’s sad to know that there’ll be no more emails for these Making Moves albums, but every good thing must come to an end…That’s some cliché people say, right? Well those people are dumb. Good things shouldn’t have to end, but sadly this one is, but it’s good that Motion City Soundtrack could bring it all together in the end, despite that one bump in the road with “Pictures of Success.”
You can get the last Making Moves featuring Motion City Soundtrack November 6th, and if you were a fan of the whole series, you can get the box set on November 20th.
