Only On Weekends: Dig In

This week at work a trio of us sadly talked about being 25. Because hitting 25 is like slamming into the brick wall of youth. You’re now forced to round up and then you’re staring at 30, but hopefully there’s music to keep you feeling youthful. Enter Only on Weekends’ Dig In.

This EP brought me back to early Blink and The Starting Line. It is this nasal induced pop punk that’s about simplicities like a friend’s crazy girlfriend. Speaking of, “Drugs” is just that. After about minute you get it’s not actually promoting narcotics, only saying they’d be a better choice than this bad excuse of a girlfriend.

Wait, how could one forget to mention? There’s some lady vocals sprinkled about. Every song has a note that reads “girl?” The feminine touch breaks apart the songs nicely and isn’t a prime focus, just a little addition.

When going through my mental catalog of bands trying to book Only on Weekends, it was unclear until “Crazy is the New Black.” After that track it was decided that they’d fare well enough with the likes of I Call Fives.

Dig In is the record you pop on when you just want to sing along to something that is quick an simple. If you’re looking for music that’s like that, than the search is over my friend…Well after July 7th. That’s when it drops.
