Chaos. What else should one have expected from a band from the dirty IE? Hailing not too far from Create Avoid’s hometown of Riverside, CA, I can say things like that. The Inland Empire is a place that doesn’t take shit from anyone and that comes across in the metal infused hardcore EP Pastime.
As I type this the guys of Create Avoid are gearing up for their show in Escondido, CA at The Metaphor. People attending will probably get a circle pit (kids are still into those, right?) going to “Left Alone.” Personally I couldn’t pick up a word they were saying, but whatever floats your boat. I do however think I deciphered some in “Never Again” as it started off with what resembled what could only be described as a hardcore parade. There was either something about rights or eyes, and also looking in a mirror? In the end I wondered if “Timeline” was a revolt against the new Facebook layout…
Pastime is music parents tell you to turn down or off when on a car ride they promised you could pick the music on. It’s not for those who take the easy way out and listen to light rock and things with a simple structure. It is however for those people who adorn their bodies with faded Metallica tees and throw up the devil horns at any given moment to signify something “rocks,” even if that something is simply a hamburger.
Create Avoid’s Pastime is out now on Pure Noise Records, so take notice if you like that loud, abrasive music and bands like No Bragging Rights and Ace Augustine.
