Women have always had to take things a step further to make their impression stick, especially in music. Not all females want to be painted up like a pop star, that’s why the likes of Joan Jett, Janis Joplin and even Gwen Stefani did things their way to make a name not only for their selves, but for other women rockers to come. That’s where female lead Drop Tank from Australia’s, Domina, comes in. Their high adrenaline sound is more for fans of Tsunami Bomb and The Donnas and less for fans of Paramore and We Are The In Crowd.
Sooner than later, “White Lady” puts the idea of “punk” into listeners’ minds. You can easily see Drop Tank releasing their abrasive style at places like The Whisky on Sunset. The chaos that inhibits this record can best be balled up and given to someone in “Saw Nothing.” It’s as if they picked up right where Bikini Kill left off. The only downtime you can expect is when “Medicine” kicks in…wait, what? Did they mean to do that?
Drop Tank’s Domina 80’s punk and anti-mainstream demeanor is the perfect combination for anyone looking for a new rock band to get behind. A female fronted band that’s not about showcasing a picture perfect image in front of a guitar, but bringing a brash sound to life with Banshee like vocals intertwined with energetic music. Domina is available now for free, so there’s really no blaming the economy for not getting your ears on it.
