The roads are winding and the sun has barely said hello as Humaana’s Comfort rests in my ears. Being only five songs deep, it was easy to get lost and I’m glad I lost my way the first time around, because I enjoyed the EP a lot more the second and third time around.
The joggers trying to keep up to the Metro ran along to “Passing Parade” at a steady pace only to be broken up by the tinker toy incorporation mid-song and it kind of ran right into the second song. Not until I “slid to unlock” did I realize “Live Like The Sixties” had begun. I should’ve though because the vocals took on a Ben Gibbard feel. From the Deathcab to the Postal Service as the record takes on a happier tone with “Stay Alone” and becomes one I continue to listen to, trying to get the snaps just right. But it’s “Fake Smile” everyone will fall for. I wanted to do the hipster dance my friend and I do when imitating We Are Scientist fans the whole time. It’s an awkward sway that doesn’t really follow any beat, just looks deep and cool, sometimes throwing in a shoulder shrug to emphasize the music has changed beat.
Never try something once is what I learned with Humaana’s Comfort. If I had just let this one become another entry in my recycle bin, I would’ve never found this indie record was supported by coats of rock. So if you are interested in this because of what you’ve read and/or just want to take on something new, please get yourself a copy of Humaana’s Comfort because you can…right now.
