Stay Pretty is a motto many repeat throughout the day as hairspray begins to fail and make-up fades. But who needs the physical when one can have the musical side of beauty? Soft Pipes’ Stay Pretty EP is just that; a somewhat hallucinogenic stream set to an indie beat. So before Anthony Polcino could register his former band, Low VS Diamond, as a memory, he set out on a solo path, the result being Soft Pipes. And with one album under his belt and a band to back him onstage, Anthony has his eyes on more than the LA scene with his latest endeavor when it’s introduced to the world on September 27th.

“In Violet” could be Alice in Wonderland’s latest theme due to the colorful delivery that paints floral images in midair and a line one can hear Alice saying over and over as the Queen of Hearts badgers her, “…even in my dreams I was wrong.” From a classic tale to a modern one, “Sleeper” had this steady build up that landed somewhere on the Coldplay spectrum. It was a calm ride much like Chris Martin in “Trouble,” Anthony’s words come out in a pace that renders minds to think of a dream sequence in slow motion.

Ending with the beginning, ironically because this next part is about hipsters. Right when Stay Pretty began with “Stay Pretty” I wanted to brush it into that “indie hipster on Cahuenga” category, but I quickly hit my backspace button. Yes, it has an indie sound to it, but it’s on the mature side, something I’d like to call “Indie Chic.” Imagine a couple who met at Amoeba 10 years down the road, settled down in their downtown loft looking to enjoy some music that’s upbeat enough for them to move on a night out.

And one more time, when can you have Stay Pretty all to yourself? Okay, okay, I’ll tell you again…It will be available for your enjoyment September 27th and if you’re in Los Angeles make sure to check Soft Pipes out before Stay Pretty drops at The Bootleg Theater on August 22nd. Who knows, you may get some new tunes off Stay Pretty.
