With Beavis and Butthead coming back to a couch near you soon, one can only wonder what they’ll critique. MTV airs the same six videos at 3am, leaving the duo lost. But if they’re looking for a band that will remind them of their heyday, they need not look any further than Mild Mannered. Lyrics shrouded in flannelled harmonies, Mild Mannered takes a page from 90’s College Alt radio on their latest, Believeland. You can instantly see the swirling graphics as “The Damaged” kicks in and are comparable to Bush (get your head out of the gutter) if Gavin Rossdale was about 2% more feminine with “Me.” But it’s in their first track off Believeland that i felt best represented their overall sound. Many teen movies from the later part of the 90’s have amazing bands at their proms that had a female leading the way with a voice that stuck out. Most were going for that No Doubt look, but all their sound was always more on the Veruca Saltish. “Back Home” reminded me of that; Courtney Love’s tattered baby doll dresses and all. So if you’re a fan of women who can handle their shit onstage in a rock environment who aren’t just pieces of eye candy, but grudge inspired with something to say, Mild Mannered’s Believeland is for you and you can get it September 27th.
