Pop quiz: Best way to discover a band? Did you say on some random place on the internet? Well that’s a great answer because you’re reading this, but the better answer is live. Heart to Heart played a show last month with a new favorite of ours at Golden Mixtape, Currents and at first I was intimidated. Nick Zoppo looks like Buddy from Senses Fail’s older brother and performs with as much aggression as Mr. Nielsen, and you’ll hear that same intensity with “Requiem” off their new vinyl Deathproof. But it wasn’t Senses Fail that I heard here, it was From First To Last. Wait, remember their good material and then listen to this one.

Pre-Skrillex aside, the other two tracks were more my style. Surprisingly “Recollections” got a star in my notes showcasing one thing; it’s a must listen. Then it got a rather strange note, “Danny Glover.” There’s a weird break where a man who sounds like Danny Glover speaks and it just throws off the flow.

Thankfully “Lessons” helps Deathproof cross the finish line with its head held high. “Requiem” was like that guy you’d never take home to mom; overtly in your face covered in anger while “Lessons” is a parents dream come true. It’s cleaned up, but not too stuffy and still is manly enough to make the cut and not have it differ too drastically from Heart to Heart’s key sound.

Deathproof is out now and should be added to any iPod that is home to the likes of Seahaven and Hostage Claim.
